Patrice de Santa Coloma is a Franco-Argentinian abstract painter, born in Buenos Aires in 1967. Initially trained as an engineer in London, he worked in computer security before transitioning to the arts at age 30. He pursued a Master of Arts at the University of the Arts London and ENSCI-Les Ateliers. His artistic practice is deeply influenced by science, particularly biology and chemistry. He often employs polyptychs—multi-panel works inspired by kaleidoscopic and microscopic imagery—to explore themes such as experimental music, science fiction, and computer science. His work is characterized by structured compositions, vibrant color harmonies, and visual dissonances. De Santa Coloma’s notable series include “Diplopia,” “IntiSole,” “Morphism,” and “Telas Sueltas.” His exhibitions often draw inspiration from literature, referencing works like Ernesto Sábato’s “The Tunnel” and Julio Cortázar’s “Casa Tomada.” He has also collaborated with scientific institutions, such as the Functional Genomics Center of Bordeaux, as part of the FACTS Art and Science residency. Based in Bordeaux, France, de Santa Coloma’s work encompasses painting, drawing, photography, and artist books. His art has been exhibited in various venues, including the Glacières de Caudéran and the Jardin Botanique de Bordeaux. Patrice de Santa Coloma has showcased his work in various exhibitions, both solo and group, across Europe.
