ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is a vibrant work inspired by the energetic and mystical atmosphere of the carnival festival. In the expansive scene, the viewer's eyes are drawn to two main characters: a Sphynx cat and an Ibicenco Podenco dog, creating a unique and intriguing image. The background of the painting depicts an incredibly unique scene. In the distance, on the other side of the river, a procession of carnival participants with blazing torches is advancing towards a bridge, creating a dynamic and lively image. Interestingly, they are moving in the opposite direction of the two main characters, creating an understated contrast that accentuates the image of the cat and dog, prompting independent thoughts about the situation for the viewer. The painting excels in its strong contrast between the brilliance of the carnival festival and the tranquility of the cat and dog. A sense of ambiguity and indefiniteness emanates from the crowd to the theme of the river crossing, creating a mysterious and profound atmosphere about the meaning of life.

My name is Uy. I was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, but I've been living in Berlin, Germany for 6 years. In March 2021, I completed my Master's degree in Painting at the Berlin Weissensee School of Art. Although I specialized in Fine Arts during my studies, my fascination with filmmaking also emerged. Aside from painting, I've been deeply involved in creating short films from 2020 to 2022, totaling 4 projects. Currently, I've taken a pause from filmmaking and returned to my roots in painting. In 2021, I began with still life paintings, as the city was under lockdown, allowing me to channel my creativity at home. Now, I'm frequently venturing outdoors again, exploring different artistic horizons such as landscape painting.
