ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The work belongs to a series on cattle I called A Thousand Cattle, Two Hills. Since independence, Nigeria has witnessed cases of conflicts between the Fulani herdsmen and farmers over grazing land/farmland. In 2016, the government thought of creating a grazing bill that allows certain lands to be reserved nationwide for cattle. The policies seemed more to favor the herdsmen than local farmers who must buy such lands. The plight of grazing/farmlands became exacerbated along ethnic, religious and zonal lines, with the herdsmen who mostly come from the north of Nigeria fighting the southern farmers. Hopefully, people will think deeply about fair treatment for all parties in the clashes that has led to loss of lives and properties on both sides of the divide.
