American artist Marlene Carroll Couri is known for her innovative depictions of pop art characters. Internationally collected, her early creative visual experiences include ballet, fashion model, fashion instructor, modeling agency owner, fashion show choreographer/coordinator. Her artistic focus completely transformed when she picked up a paint brush in the 1990s. Amazingly, she is self taught. Marlene's primary subjects include historical figures, celebrities, national icons, advertising and cartoon characters, as well as popular toys. "My work is all about nostalgia.... positive, life-affirming images.” Her unique approach adds a sense of whimsy and innocence often incorporating serious underlying themes and/or paying homage to culturally significant figures. Many of Marlene's paintings are in private and corporate collections around the world.
