Clipper Trading Ship entering Carribean waters, c 1845 Painting

There is some other worldly about Clipper Trading ships with their sails billowing and the speed they achieved. British trading ships plied the Atlantic and Pacific. Tea and sugar was their usual cargo. Although high speed for their time, they seem slow compared with modern freighters. I hope the viewer will experience some of the excitement that these ships provoke. Perhaps they will hear the wind in the sails and hear the sea lashing the hull. Oil on canvas provides a good surface and flexibility to paint sky, clouds and waves. It is also a splendid surface upon which to paint the Clipper ship.
