Closet #3 -Monsters who dote on human clothing- The Monster Series is inspired by the psychological phenomenon of pareidolia. Pareidolia: a psychological phenomenon in which visual and auditory data are interpreted through known pattern recognition. Since my childhood, I had no interest in drawing people or landscapes. For me, the wood grain on the bathroom door at home looked like a monster, so I did a lot of graffiti on that theme. I liked strange things, and it was a kind of playful way for me to imagine scary things for myself and thrill in my imagination. Even now, to this day, I still sometimes play that kind of child's game. This piece is a mixed media drawing in pastel, graphite, and pen on a woodblock printed with oil ink on Japanese paper. Three pieces are made on the same woodblock. This is #3. It rhythmically incorporates the clear lines of the woodblock, the soft lines of the pastel, and lines drawn with other writing materials.
