About The Artwork

Since my first visit to Birling Gap, Kent (UK), I have been captivated by the incredible combination of shapes, textures and topography. The cliffs have suffered several collapses due to weather erosion which has left the coastline in an everchanging, lunar like state, with huge chalk boulders scattered across parts of the beach. The sun's reflection against the white chalk has created a similar effect to snowy mountain peaks, meaning it is often so bright you need sunglasses. We are custodians in our lifetimes, and I feel that in capturing the beauty of the coastline and areas where the landscape is under threat from erosion (whether natural or due to climate change), I can raise awareness for our need to protect the fragile world we live in.

Charlotte Iggulden is a self-taught Surrey based artist, and has been selling her oil paintings, drawings and limited edition prints since her school teachers began buying her canvases when she was 15 years old. She has also been producing bespoke commissions after being awarded the Surrey Art Award in 2005 for her A Level art project on ‘Vanishing Cultures,’ where she produced research and paintings based on the sociological impact of consumerization and globalisation. Charlotte specialises in oil paint and pencil in a detailed realistic style for a variety of subjects, although she enjoys experimenting with her style for commissions. She endeavours to paint scenes that will connect individuals to one another and to their environment. She decided not to pursue fine art as a degree despite already selling work and instead studied English Literature at Royal Holloway University of London, graduating in 2010. During her time there and throughout the following years working in journalism and marketing, she exhibited her work in a London restaurant and produced bespoke commissions for clients. These commissions were mainly portraiture based, although some were specifically for interiors. However, her painting began to consume much of her time and she decided to follow her heart and pursue art full time in June 2014. Charlotte has since exhibited her seascapes and botany paintings alongside Chinese activist and contemporary artist Ai Wei Wei as well as hypperrealist artist and official Royal Portrait painter, Darren Baker in his London gallery. She has participated in the Landmark Arts Spring Fair and now has her work on display in a popular gallery in Cornwall, selling her paintings and limited edition prints across the country. She is currently using her art to promote the work of The Environment Trust and is looking to do more conservation work, particularly internationally. Charlotte continues to produce bespoke commissions, as well as original paintings and drawings; please enquire for more information.
