About The Artwork

This is an unframed watercolor using artist watercolors on 100% cotton acid free paper. Depicting the vibrant sepia hues, the fishing nets of Cochin (now renamed Kochi) is a mesmerizing sight to the outsider as well as local residents. The colors reflected are fluid and change with the light. Reminiscent of the transient nature of hope, the fishermen cast their nets anticipating a good catch. The sight brings home to the viewer a breathless image of light, fluidity, tranquility fused together.

Mona Grover is based in New Delhi, India, and is a self-taught artist. She began painting in her early years at School. To her surprise and delight her paintings received accolades and were displayed by her art teacher at School. This initial recognition stayed with her and she continued painting in her spare time. After completing School and having topped in Physics she made an unusual choice by specializing in Economics and Finance and had a successful corporate career spanning over two decades. While working in the Banking industry she began to seek greater exposure to the art world. One such visit to the Museum of Modern Art in New York resulted in viewing Vincent Van Gogh’s magnum opus – The Starry Night which became a huge inspiration for her. Passionate about art, she now mainly paints in her favoured medium of watercolours. Her paintings are often symbolic and convey a mood or evoke the memory of a moment. For Mona, the beauty of the early morning sun rays filtering through a tree; the silver shimmer of water bodies when light touches them; the silhouette of people when light reaches them partially; or even, the lengthening of shadows as light begins to retrace – all of them are artworks painted by nature. Having travelled in India and abroad, Mona has visited some of the most picturesque landscapes across the world and she has often drawn on these scenes in her paintings. There are many insights that we draw from this wonderful journey we call – Life, and they continue to inspire her work. Mona has recently, in September 2022, exhibited her artworks at an exhibition organized by the highly esteemed Bombay Art Society.
