The Collaboration Project consist of 9 paintings done from 1/2000 through 2005 by myself- Daniel Stern and Kayo Shido Albert. Each piece of the collaboration series was started by one of the artist and then mailed back to the other in a repeated exchange, without any dialog by either of the artist. No rules, no timeline, no restrictions or stated purpose were established other than a desire to complete the piece with respect to the progress and sensibility of the other. Each painting reached a conclusion on its own merit: oil/enamel on mylar 44" x 72"

“Like my life-my work should not be stagnant but continually energized through the process of creating. I want it to reflect the changes in my life and the beauty that is found in imperfection. This journey is carried through my art with pencil, paint, camera and film”. Daniel Stern defines himself as a “mark-maker” who intentionally blurs the line between painting and drawing. He is constantly constructing and deconstructing the surface with layers of information over various grounds and thoughtful attention to each mark, each stroke of paint, each symbol and each layer of information. Through this process Daniel ‘figures things out’ by building, erasing, and re-inventing— to make sense of it all by creating small and large scale abstract, personal landscapes. Daniel is a visual artist with a Neurological Disability (MS) diagnosed in 1997 that lead to a journey of self-discovery, re-invention, and meditation to adapt and embrace the disease and its impact to “Self”. As a result Daniel discovered a true-self and purpose, which revealed the “beauty of imperfection” both visually and philosophically. These themes pervade his work. Daniel has kept his art practice private for the last 30 years while earning an income from a software sales career. Despite his success, his sales position was eliminated in the early stages of the pandemic. Daniel saw this as a gift to embrace his lifelong passion and focus on his art practice. He is presently seeking Gallery representation while selling his work privately. When not in the studio, he is a passionate photographer who earned a stipend and exhibition for his street photography series "Your Other Self" in 2016. Above all, he is a very proud father of a magical daughter.
