About The Artwork

I always ask myself 'what is a painting?', 'why am I making paintings?'. I look back on my work and they tell a story of my life. Moments, experiences and places. Life is fleeting and throughout our history we have endeavoured to capture it. Seeing and feeling, there is no better medium to achieve this than oil on canvas. The camera cannot truly see the full spectrum of nature and emotion. Some moments are treasured. I have travelled to make a painting before but now I have grown to appreciate what lies beneath my nose, Colston Bassett is in the surrounding landscape where I live. My focus has shifted onto this idyllic English landscape.

I went to an Art college in northern Nottinghamshire and then achieved a degree at the now known Cambridge School of Art. Whereupon I received a valuable education in painting from a Camberwell painter there. I have travelled widely throughout the world. From volunteering in the 'third world', Iceland, The United States and Russia and Europe. I have studied Art within different cultures of the countries I have experienced, past and present. Different philosophies applied to the practice of painting and how our experiences as human beings reflect in our work particularly. I have always felt a strong connection with the landscape genre in painting. I apply my life experiences and knowledge of how a variety of cultures interpret the landscape in painting into my own work. Ranging from Chinese painting to Italian frescoes. My paintings are in private collections within The United States, United Kingdom and Russia.
