Richard Mierniczak lives and works in Leonberg near Stuttgart. He is an autodidact. Over the years, he acquired painting techniques and theoretical knowledge in the field of art through self-study. He started painting at the age of about 17-18 years. Since then oil has been his main technique. He has also acquired the soft pastel technique, with which he has created a series of natural and urban landscapes. The main motif in his works are natural landscapes, a clear commitment to nature - in childhood the fields, meadows and groves were the best playground for him and his playmates. Over time, urban landscapes, geometric abstractions and symbolic-surreal themes have been added to his subjects, but nature keeps coming back as a continuous motif like a boomerang. He uses different painting techniques depending on the subject. With landscapes, the oil is "alla prima" with impressinistic, spontaneous brushstrokes, with other motifs, he occasionally uses simple layering techniques. For geometric abstractions he started with oil but with time he switched to acrylic technique. In his abstract works, the viewer's eye is led through imaginary spaces, contours and colour landscapes and are for him a kind of mind game with colours and shapes. The Geometric Abstractions are influenced by his primary profession as a designer in construction and mechanical engineering, with an emphasis on the spatiality of the geometric figures depicted. The colour scale of his paintings ranges from ascetic monochrome to exuberant form and colour.
