ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Stars have always fascinated me. I remember working in a printing press as a teenager - my hands covered with ink - after hard work, I used to go out for a smoke and I enjoyed looking at the stars. For me, there is nothing more beautiful than the stars. They were there when we were born and continue to accompany us throughout life until death - repetitive, but beautiful. My studies and associating with the local artists have helped me to get acquainted with the works of great painters like Wassily Kandinsky and Joan Miro, who are an inexhaustible inspiration in the art I create. However, right after graduating in graphic design from the Faculty of Arts in Prishtina, I was not yet ready to develop a body of work. Instead, I decided to take a break in order to grow in other directions, but always keeping in mind that one day I will return to arts and put into work what I have observed over the years. Now, after almost a decade, I am able to develop a body of work which includes mechanical elements and mainly the four pure basic colors used in the printing press, geometric shapes influenced by Kandinsky and also graphic design discipline that I learned during my studies. As for the astral journey, I have not yet managed to physically travel into space, but I can see the beauty of the stars at night and they always trigger my imagination.

Hekuran Sokoli, (born April 17, 1989 in Prishtina), is an emerging artist currently focused on geometric art. At a young age, he started working at a printing press and this is where his desire for colors and arts in general grew. After graduating in 2012 from the Faculty of Arts - University of Pristina, he worked as a graphic designer and now works as a journalist at Klan Kosova television, where he covers events and writes articles about culture. During the total lockdown as a result of the pandemic, Sokoli started working on a group of artworks entitled "The Astral Journey" and thus opened his first solo exhibition in June 2021 in the lobby of the National Library of Kosovo. On July 18, 2022, his artwork “The Imperfect Balance” was selected by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for the enrichment of the public art fund in Kosovo. On July 15, 2023, he opened his second solo show "My Broken Pieces" at the "ODA Gallery" in Shkodër, Albania, where 24 geometric abstraction artworks as well as a self-portrait were exhibited. On November 8, 2023, he opened his third solo show at "Raiffeisen Gallery" in Prishtina, where 14 geometric abstraction artworks were exhibited. Artist's statement: In a world where the expectations concerning mankind are ever-increasing, I can do a few things to make a living. Yet I settle for what is most insecure and childish. This is because only in art I find the full expression. Only in art I can merge my knowledge and experience together with my imagination and create something unimpeded. In it I find shelter, intellect, creativity, joy, struggle, hard work, discipline, fun, individualism, challenge, healing, acceptance and above all, FREEDOM. I manifest all of this through geometric forms and shapes because this is my best way of expression. Through geometric art I manage to express the known and the unknown within myself.
