ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This abstract oil painting is based on sketches from building sites and rising architecture in the North of England. I have used an expressive thick impasto style with the brush strokes so that the oil paint is quite thick and in relief in places. The work is painted on primed and gessoed canvas which has been stretched over a well constructed double wooden stretcher frame. the work could be hung as it is or framed either with or without glass. My painting is bound up with examination of the land, and in particular, the ephemeral, those forces and presences that cannot be seen but which change and shape the land. The work has taken me to a range of habitats to examine them in new ways and consider how each small part of our upland and lowland environment affects larger systems. I have a Master of Art (Fine Art) and BA Honours Degree in Fine Art from Manchester School of Art. Career highlights have included being selected for the Royal Institute of Painters in watercolour exhibition, Mall Galleries, (2024, 2023), ING Discerning Eye exhibition (2022) Sunday Times Watercolour competition (2020) and making live ice installations at the Whitworth Gallery and Victoria Baths Manchester.
