Contemplation of a British woman emerging from Matryoshka dolls Painting

For this piece, I wanted to mix surrealism with abstract expressionism in the same place. For the background, I used thick layers of oil, spread with knife pallette. An undefined snowy threatening background of matter is trapping the naif and defined subjects. Matryoshka dolls have been a symbol of femininity in Russia. They were usually representing the peasant female. It got the inspiration from a trip done to Moscow where I purchased these dolls and thought how difficult mush be to feel trapped inside a consecution of shields. The woman emerges after having to deal with layers and layers of wood walls. She's not a silly doll anymore.
