This painting has its own story.
Have you ever dreamed of getting to a master class with some great painter of the 19th century? I wish I could. After all, this is a treasure trove of advice. Eh, it's a shame the time machine hasn't been invented yet.
When a woman asked me to paint a copy of the painting by the greatest French painter of the 19th century, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, "Song of the Angels" (Madonna with Angels), at first I thought she was joking. Well, or he doesn't understand the complexity of such a picture, the skill of a great master and so much more, which, as it seemed to me, does not even get close to such great works.
But the woman very much asked me to paint this very picture. She needed her for a gift. And she was absolutely sure that everything will work out for me. She - yes, but I doubted. And yet she persuaded me.
I plunged into the study of the artist's materials. And suddenly she read that she was at the very beginning of her artistic career, Bouguereau also wrote a copy of the famous painting. It was a painting by the great artist Raphael, The «Triumph of Galatea».
At that time, copying paintings by great masters was an indispensable condition and one of the requirements for receiving the Rome Prize.
I considered this a sign of approval for myself and got down to work.
Oh, how grateful I am to my customer! It was as if she pushed me to the door of the great artist.
For several months I studied with enthusiasm, trying to carefully repeat, every stroke, every shade, every detail. The painting gave me a unique opportunity to study in practice the direction of light, choice of color, composition, intensity of lighting, gestures and poses of characters and many more nuances and details.
It was such an inspired work, as if I went to lessons at Bouguereau himself, magically transported to that era and filled the picture with the energy of that time.
The work was written using only high-quality and natural materials and paints, which do not fade over the years, but are only filled with energy and inner light even more. Coating with dammar varnish makes the paints even more transparent.
