One of a new series of large, intensely coloured paintings created during Summer 2020. Oil paints were used thinly on the canvas at first and then thicker impasto layers of colour were worked into the picture over many sessions in the studio. Finally oil pastels were used to finesse the picture and draw out details. These paintings are conceived as abstract but often a feeling of landscape emerges during the process.

“Earth and sky are clearly distinguished in the typical Jane Kell landscape … sunlight-dyed orange clouds stack in an azure sky, an orange field glows beneath a baby-blue firmament. Kell’s compositions are studies in two varieties of light, warm and cool.” WASHINGTON POST. 14th January 2022 Jane Kell is a British artist based in London with representation in both the UK and the USA. She paints with oils and is primarily interested in colour and light, aiming to push the boundaries with colour/form but retain the essential elements in the picture. In May 2017 she participated in an artist-in-residency based in France where she painted 'en plein air' for the first time. This immersive experience intensified her interest in landscape, and she has produced a series paintings themed around water & landscape. Since 2018 her work has become more abstract and larger scale. In 2019 Jane relocated to the US where she became a member of the Studio Gallery in Washington DC. In 2020 she had her first US solo show at the Amy Kaslow Gallery in Washington DC. Following this sell-out show she was invited to be the Artist-in-Residence at the gallery. In December 2021 she had her second solo show at the Gallery ABSTRACT LIGHT and this was reviewed in the Washington Post. In May 2023 she collaborated again with the gallery showing a series of ten new paintings in the exhibition entitled COLOR & LIGHT. Jane returned to the UK in 2022 and is now based in London.
