ABOUT THE ARTWORK
oil on canvas 120x100cm These paintings come from sketches I do while I ride the bus in Edinburgh. I have small diaries with me that I fill with line drawings anywhere I am and when I'm in the mood....cafés, pubs, bus, planes. Sometimes the movement of the scenes need another scale and especially a quality to the background that I can only achieve on canvas with oils and acrylics. I deliberately maintain the outline of the drawings on top of the abstraction underneath.

After graduating with honors in 1995 with her installation work from the Art School in Aix-en-Provence and concluding an art practice-led doctoral research in 2004 in Montréal, Sophia started to teach painting in the south of France. In 2008 she moved to Edinburgh where she now lives and works . Since 2001, Sophia Lindsay Burns has pursued her practice as a painter with a focus on space and abstraction and maintained a daily drawing practice for which she was commissioned on several collaborative projects creating illustrations and visual diaries for authors. Her work has been shown in group & solo exhibitions mainly in France since 1994, and at various art fairs in the UK and France since 2010 (MacParis 2010/2011)
