The title and my inspiration is borrowed from Michael Ende's novel "The Neverending Story". Ende's protagonist must pass through three gates to reach the "Southern Oracle". The 'Big Riddles Gate' is the first. In order not to be killed here by the gaze of two sphinxes, it requires absolute honesty, purity, freedom and devotion without doubting. Only in this way they close their eyes and let pass unmolested. The gaze of a sphinx sends out all the riddles of the world and only another can endure it. Whoever is struck by it freezes until he finds all the solutions. Mythology, cult. For me, all in all, a wonderful metaphor for painting and painting itself. Although I make references to many models, for me the symbolism of things is in the foreground. I try to understand and use their character to create a clarifying and emotional work that shows the traces of my mental immersion and reflects my engagement with the world. My painting speaks of existence, immanence, transcendence and what it means to be human. If I manage to open a space for the viewer to rest and reflect, I am satisfied. IMPORTANT: No canvas / stretcher frame. The painting was worked out on a glued and primed cotton fabric. The work is fixed in a rail at the top of the picture and can then be put on nails in the wall or hung on gallery rails. It's the original material used by the artist. The painting hangs on the wall like a large paper. The work is shipped rolled in a tube and the rail is included with instructions and markings. ATTENTION: Currently it is not possible to upload more than one photo file per artwork! This is a current technical issue that is affecting several artists and which the engineering team is working on. There are photo files of the other views of the artwork and I'm sure the curators can submit them by other means.
