From the Numbers to the Magic of Colors My academic formation began with the decision to study mathematics. This decision introduced me to the learning and understanding of a symbolic language that would take me places I had never explored or even seen before. Robert Musil wrote that mathematics are the "most pure distillation that exact thought has extracted from the efforts of man to understand nature, to instill order in the confusion of events that are produced in the physical world, to create beauty and to satisfy the healthy brain's natural inclination to exercise." To me, that is the world of painting. While I was leaning towards the study of mathematics, I always had a great passion for art. To me, they were both the same"”complexity of forms, patters, figures, and drawings transformed in various languages that were incomprehensible to some and easy to understand for others. These languages took me in the same direction, the point in which two opposing and similar worlds meet. It was at that point that I decided to acquire a brush and a canvas, and take my first painting class. This event would somehow have an effect on my present, my future, and even my past. Through my work I find equilibrium, order (and chaos), symmetry, proportions and distances. With the gradual introduction of colors I become slightly detached from the conscious reality in order to display my thoughts, my feelings, and my subconscious. Both mathematics and art share that aura of abstraction. I borrow the Golden ratio from the Pythagorean School and the purest forms"”squares, triangles, and straight lines"”from the Euclidean geometry. I incorporate precise techniques that are nonetheless source of much inquiry and delving, and a gamut of colors that give sense to my work"”and my life. Should my style need a name, let's call it "geometric abstraction."
