About The Artwork

Gene expression of in abstract form. The inspiration came from a single thread of hair. How can I take a part of myself and transform it into an abstract work of art? So I manipulated the long thread of hair and sketched it in charcoal to define the form. The natural rich golden yellow contrasts the black like the colors of a bumble bee. The timeless abstract modern look would work well in a lounge, den or dining room. The path of the curved black line is in fact one elongated line and follows a set path, just as our DNA unfolds our own unique expression on this Earth. Dan Oliver. 2021. Oil and Charcoal on Canvas.

I was born in Ripon, Wisconsin and spent much of my childhood outdoors with the Boy Scouts or visiting my Grandparents in Waupaca, Wisconsin. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. After college, I moved to Chicago to study improv comedy at iO and The Second City, where I performed in theatre and film for over a decade before moving to Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles, my love for oil painting erupted in a new environment. Endless Summer days spent painting in my studio flowed out of me as abstract art liberated my spirit. Being self-taught gave me the freedom to create from intuition while utilizing my improv experience to create works of art in the moment. Oil painting became my obsession that Summer in my small East Hollywood studio. It was a way to cope with life, trauma & pain, as well as further explore the emotional scale and the concepts of neuroscience and positive phycology. I currently create my art in Ripon, WI. As a full time creative, I also freelance as an actor, producer and writer. I love gourmet vegan food, coffee and wine. My art is about connection, creativity and expression. The subject matter ranges from nature, literature reflections, pop culture and global cultural phenomenon. Most of my collectors are hard-working individuals within the arts and entertainment industry. I paint to stimulate the viewer's creativity & thought. The end result is an abundant luxurious escape from the world, allowing greater reverence for life in the collector's life. I greatly admire the work of Picasso & George Condo most of all because of their ability to transform the daily experience into something abstract, colorful and multi-dimensional spanning across the illusion of time. When individuals encourages artistic growth and expansion in others, we will enter into a new world of possibility and wealth never before witnessed on this planet. My work explores expansion through the use of color, abstraction and emotion. Thank you for taking an interest in my work and I hope to help you find art you can appreciate for generations to come.
