About The Artwork

A dream location, a favorite dress, bouts of wine and dearest of friends and families is all you need for a perfect wedding. If looked closely, a bridal bouquet can be the aperture into a picturesque view of the entire ceremony. These paintings are exactly that - small little glimpses of how the wedding scene looks like, when the bride walks in. I imagined a desert themed wedding for this painting. An oasis in the middle of barren land with succulents of various kinds adorning the tables. I imagined high empire waists of the gown with a matching royal crown, big ornate chairs for the guests in attendance, and a high opulent archway full of roses serving the entrance. This is an original gouache painting on Stillman and Birn beige mixed media paper, matted on birch cradled wood panel. The size of the painting is approximately 4" x 6" and 1.5" in thickness. It comes varnished with 3 coats of Krylon Kamar spray varnish to ensure protection from sunlight over time. The wood panel is double varnished with clear waterbased sealants to give a smooth feel and a longer life. Artist's signature with the date on the side of the frame.

Hi! I am Menka Desai-Crawford, an Architect turned Artist and the face behind Mantis Shrimp Monocles. After exploring the possibility of a career change to Art while in New York City, I pursued it full-time in Mumbai for three years. Not only is Mumbai my hometown, but also where I really learned about alcohol inks, and where a whole new avenue opened up for me as an Artist. Fast forward to 2021, I now live in Portland, Oregon with my husband, David. I have explored and continue to explore a variety of mediums such as Gouache, Watercolors, Resin, and surfaces like handmade papers, synthetic sheets and wood, among others. The small art business that started way back in 2018 has now become Mantis Shrimp Monocles LLC, registered with the State of Oregon. I love a good composition on everything - whether on paper, in spaces or in imagination. I look forward to this exciting journey and hope my artwork will bring as much joy to you as it has brought me while creating it.
