My work started out as a concept. I wanted to capture my feelings of being connected to the ocean. For me, there are many layers to my work. What once started out as a memory of my youth has evolved into a representation of cycles. My work is a current that takes the viewer beyond the actual scales. The repetition represents a life's past, present, and future. We may not know where a current is going to take us, but we have no choice except to flow. The process I use to create my work is as important as my contribution to each piece. The unique curing of each polyurethane scale is as unknown to me as the viewer. I never have a set vision of the final piece. I always allow my work to evolve into what it will be. Like the levies in the gulf, I create boundaries for the pouring of the oil and polyurethane. But as we know, levies do not always hold and there can be an uncontrollable overflow that in the end creates beauty.  It is believed that everything came from water, that it is the origin to life. Some even believe that water once destroyed all living things, but somehow life recycled and continued. My work contains what once was and what will be.
