About The Artwork

I painted this to help myself understand a nuance of body image and audience in our culture. For some years I struggled to understand a subtle difference I felt between contemporary images of women made for male versus female consumption. An example of this is the difference between the models featured in Maxim versus those featured in Vogue. With consideration, it became clear that media outlets that cater to a female audience tend to show women with a lower BMI, a smaller bust to waist to hip ratio than those that cater to men. I do not have an explanation for why this is, but if someone were to compile a comprehensive analysis of the topic, I am sure my observation would be proven correct. What does this signify?
