About The Artwork
"Digestive System" is one of a series of seven beaded internal organ illustrations with jewel colored seed beads I made while living and teaching in Michigan. I was fascinated by the range of colors, sparkle and intricate patterning that could be achieved in the stitching of these anatomical forms...how they came to be transformed to something almost botanical and beautiful instead of visceral and anatomical. The beads are stitched on a vintage cotton handkerchief with a subtle striped pattern and lace edge.
