ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Disappeared #1 depicts a common urban-occurrence, the moment after a building has has been leveled to make way for something new. I stumbled across this home in this condition moments after it was razed and was shocked into a need to respond through painting. Oil on plain board speaks to the materials of the home itself and the wooden structure of the building that pokes up through piles of mini blinds and windows. This painting stands on its own but is one in a series of three documenting the shift of a single plot of land in urban Southern California as single-family home transitions to become a multi-family building.
