ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Here we see Dobbie, an abstracted and simply painted reddish dog, (perhaps a Doberman), lounging elegantly on a yellow couch. His “cone of shame” is elevated to Egyptian God-like status, with black and white stripes becoming more like a Victorian ruff collar than a punishment. His paws and ankles have received some sort of veterinarian intervention and are wrapped in bandages. Despite his situation, there is dignity in his posture. The scale of this painting, 76” x 76”, and meaty surface quality, makes Dobbie a formidable character but his abstracted face renders his emotions a mystery.
