About The Artwork
This is a picture of seeming serenity depicted in soft colors. A peaceful moon with a woman's face dominates the upper part of the composition. In the lower right hand corner there are two dozing dogs - taken directly from the Velázquez classic "The Meninas" - while in the horizon a volcano is erupting. Both moon and dogs appear totally unconcerned by the distant raging volcano.
