Don't Cry to Me, Mati or Pieta in Pink Why do artists create paintings, and why people look at them? Have you ever thought about it? Why do we need art? Real, genuine art teaches us life: love, compassion, mercy on the verge of despair. When the modern world communicates completely different values to society, art becomes a marginal zone where the humanity is safe from falling into the abyss. ‘Pieta’ means compassion in Italian. But does our audience need compassion today? There are many smart and pseudo-intelligent paintings, but there are few truthful ones. Syuzanna Kamara is a rare contemporary artist whose art is a continuation of the traditions of the great masters of the past not in terms of academic techniques at all, but by its very essence — the search for an answer to the question “What is truth?”. This question was once asked by the procurator to a poor Jew in front of the people’s court, but he never received an answer because there is no answer to this question at all, or rather, we all have our own answers. For someone, the truth is his life, home and a country house. For another person, truth is love or death. Unlimited love and death — this is Pieta, one of the most recognizable stories in European art. A dead son lying on his mother's lap is not God, but a man. Anyone can find themselves in the place of God. So, are we able to learn to be compassionate again, to mourn the death of people even if they are distant and different from us? This painting is everyone's moral choice, like an acid test. What do you see: pink glamour, love or ravaging death?
