About The Artwork
Something special is that the original photo of this doughnut is from my cook book. I received my diploma in culinary arts in 2012 and published a pastry cook book as the final chapter of my culinary career. Creatively the result is immensely satisfying, I made the doughnut and decorated it, improved the recipe and added it to my recipe book. Now we've come full circle with the painting! It is a nice feeling that the subject matter is also something I made with my hands. I wanted to draw attention to the appreciation of simplicity, its a simple sweet doughnut but its certainly not boring. I wanted to challenge viewers to think about expectations. What does simplicity mean to them? What does complexity mean to them? I chose to do a 24K gold leaf background using real gold because traditionally that is what I have used in my French pastry career. It seemed only fitting and once I started adding it I knew it was the perfect fit. I let the gold infringe on the edges of the doughnut in some areas as a reminder that it isn't a photo. I am very pleased with the end result and the rustic elegance the gold leaf added. Each piece comes with a certificate of authenticity signed and notarized with my artists stamp. The certificate includes a photo of the art work, written description, signature, and unique serial number.

Hi there! I'm Aniika (Anne-ih-kuh), an oil painter and video creator who loves to share my creative process with others. For as long as I can remember, I've been drawn to the beauty and expressive potential of oil painting.
