About The Artwork

A lump of strategic rock in Plymouth Sound. Named after Plymouth's adopted son Sir Frances Drake. No doubt in his sight whilst playing bowls on Plymouth Hoe as the French fleet was posturing in the English Channel. Sir Francis was named governor of the island and took his name. Love the subject and its powerful image at the point of Plymouth Harbour. A nice afternoon painting in the sun from the coastal pathway around Mount Edgecumbe on the Cornwall side.
