ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The preliminary sketch was made on site in the Royal National Drakensberg Park, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. This mountain scene is most probably one of the most well known ones, since the mountain series is the largest in the country and this particular scene is of the Mount-Aux-Sources mountain, or nicknamed the Amphiteater. The river is the Tugela that has its origin in the very mountain you see here. I am particularly pleased with this watercolor due to its disciplined technique. The mountains in the background was done with coarse salt in the wet paint. The eye is guided into the painting via the reflecting water towards the depths of the valley and terminates with the amphiteater of mountains.
