E Terminato, Its Finished Painting

This abstract painting work is begun as a single monotype with water soluble inks on paper and further developed in gouache and other water mediums along with some appropriate drawing materials. In much of my abstract work I am interested in the concept of place, through the use of space and I derive many of my ideas from classical European opera as well as 14/15 century Italian painting. Explorations and free use of color for emotional content have a major place in my work. My painting process is in an abstract gestural immediate style, founded in abstract expressionism that is suited for working on top of the monotype underpainting. The image size of the work is presented inside a single sheet of rag paper 22in h x 16 in. w. to allow space for framing. Some work is the actual size but is mounted on canvas so the painting can be seen as a painted object.
