Marylin Monroe is arguably the most famous of Andy Warhol’s subjects (aside from the soup can). She’s an icon of icons – the original super star. Upstate NY painter, Todd Koelmel, enjoys a practice of flow between digital and analog art. His graphic style, mastery of color, and use of hard edges lends itself to simplification – “a boiling down that’s both nostalgic and modern”. Todd’s work appears in private collections across the US, Europe, and Asia. His process begins methodically where shapes and color are simplified and flattened into modern, digital sketches. The transformation from digital sketch to analog paintings incorporate stencils, masking tape, canvas and oils. Solid blocks of color, bold linework and balance that is often referred to as “relaxing” and “satisfying”. With a background in engineering and design, Todd’s paintings pay respect to many artists throughout history and continues the lineage with a breath of 21st century air.
