ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Oil on Perspex. After the final layer of paint was applied, masking tape was removed from the top and bottom sections to reveal the raw Perspex surface it was painted on. When hung, it is supported by four L-shape screw hooks that project it off the wall by approx 2-3cm. The “Engineering” series was based on photographs of an engineering plant in Dunfermline. I was attracted to the geometric shapes and vivid colours of the equipment used in the factories.

Influenced by Buddhist philosophies on the nature of reality and perception; I gradually eliminate in my drawing and painting what I feel are unnecessary distractions from my original source photograph by constantly paring down the elements within it. I work mainly with oils on canvas or with oil bars/pastels or conte on paper. More recently I have been experimenting with different surface materials such as aluminium, steel, glass, perspex and concrete; whilst studying different ways in which to present my work in a more sculptural sense.
