ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Tasmanian forests are dark, green and mysterious, and the ghosts of their former inhabitants are ever-present. Here and there a walker comes across an old, abandoned hut where some trapper or hunter or shepherd once camped. Ewes Inn is one of these huts, near the Florentine River. But long, long before the men with traps, and horses and guns moved in, other people, human and animal, lived here. This painting is for them.

I live in Tasmania, which is about as far away as you can get from everywhere else, and spend as much time as possible in the wilderness - primeval forests are good for the soul. Landscape here is old and weathered and rugged with plenty of rocky mountains and mysterious valleys. Both the scenery and history get described as gothic quite regularly, so that's what I paint. Tasmanian Gothic.
