‘Eye of the Storm’ Details: Alcohol ink on 200gsm Yupo Paper. 91 x 64 cm. Unframed. All art comes signed and with a certificate of authenticity. Description: ‘Eye of the Storm’ is an artwork in the ‘Indian Summer’ collection. Like all paintings in this collection the inspiration comes from the long West Australian summer. It seems weird to have a painting in this collection with this title, however storms are very normal here during summer. When painting this we just had a few days with lightning storms and angry skies, which inspired me to paint this painting. I particularly love the depth in the sky, you can almost see the clouds moving. I do love a good thunderstorm! Materials: This painting was painted using alcohol inks on Yupo paper. Yupo paper is a special synthetic paper, developed specifically for art. It is non porous, making it very easy for the inks to flow freely. It doesn't absorb fluids, therefor it doesn't buckle. It is very thick, and hard to rip. Alcohol inks are highly pigmented, alcohol based inks. They can be used like other media like oils, acrylics and watercolors. By layering the inks, and by using different techniques, the artist can create a feeling of depth and flow. The thing that is different about these inks is how unpredictable they are, and to what extend one can control them. Guiding the inks takes a certain level of skill, but also the ability to accept their unruliness. I think that’s why I love them so much! It is finished with several layers of UV protection and varnish to help prevent fading.

Hi, my name is Melanie, and I am so pleased you decided to pop in for a look! I am an artist living in the beautiful Darling Ranges in Perth, Western Australia. I live here with my husband and 4 kids. I have always loved the arts, both music and visual, and I really enjoy emerging myself into other peoples art. I LOVE visiting museums and studying paintings, scrutinising brush strokes and all the the little details. That being said, I mostly find inspiration in the little things. A beautiful sunset, a gathering storm, wildflowers, old buildings, and all kinds of other weird and wonderful things. It wasn't until a few years ago that I finally found the time and courage to really start making my own creations. Art takes courage, you know? Especially when you put a bit of yourself into everything you do. And I do think I see a lot of myself and my surroundings reflected into my art. My style is eclectic and intuitive. I don't like planning, and I really like experimenting. It suits me. As a person I am pretty much all over the place as well. My household is pretty chaotic (although I can't take all the credit for that, it's more of a joined effort). And so is my art. I love working with alcohol inks. They are a chaotic medium, and they very much do whatever they want to do. You try and steer the chaos, in a way. I also like working with acrylics. Once again, I don't follow a plan, I just see where the moment takes me. I have to say, I love where it has taken me so far! Anyways, thank you for your interest. I hope you will follow me on this wonderful journey!
