ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Trees, a symbol of the connection between heaven and earth, remind us of our origins and our destination. The inspiration for the work came from the connection I feel with nature and particularly trees. I hope the work will give the viewers a sense of their place in the universe. The reason I chose Chinese ink is the freedom of mark-making that allows me to express my feelings towards my subject matter.

I love letting my thoughts roam when creating new work, and trying out new materials and different methods of mark-making. My aim is to provoke viewers into considering both the beauty of nature, its majesty, but also its enormous capacity for destruction. This same duality exists in human nature and in the societies we build. The power in us can be used for the greatest good, but its frequent abuse can have devastating consequences for individuals and particular groups in a society. It can even bring about the destruction of society as a whole.
