This artwork was created on primed belgian linen with high quality oil paint and imitation gold leaf. This work is part of a series that tells a visual story about the descent of humankind, with dolls, masks and abandoned objects as protagonists in anthropomorphic still life compositions. Descent is an ancient myth in various religions, and I use it as a way to speak of the spiraling chaos of contemporary global issues, as well as make an ode to the lost solitude and quietude of antiquity. I use dolls, masks and other anthropomorphic man-made objects to tell this story, because they are an uncanny way of representing and mirroring humanity, and hold a strong symbolic connection with our innocence, and the loss thereof when abandoned.
