Fight for words II Painting

'Fight for words II' 50 x 40 cm (19.7 x 15.8 inch) oil on canvas 2017 after Hans Memling _________________ ABOUT A TRIPTYCH: 'Fight for words', 'Temptation' and 'Fight for words II' paintings Through an unplanned and unexpected process, my last three paintings arranged themselves in a triptych. I thought a lot about the relationship between what we say and how we think and how we live. Spoken word has a great power. We can bless with it, we can curse with it. Our thoughts take causative power when we verbalize them, as they go from the passive and ephemeral state to the active one, and thereby they build the reality that surrounds us. My reflections led me to creating the twin paintings 'Fight for word' and 'Fight for word II'. It is important what kind of thoughts I let to come out of the corral of my mouth. Also, it is important for me to know what my identity is and from where I draw on a knowledge about it. To whom do I belong? Who am I and what authority do I allow to rule over my life? If I am esabilished on a solid foundation, I can wander among tempting and threatening monsters - as those from the Grunewald's painting - and not even take my eyes off them. --- All of my three paintings contain works of art which I like and which appeal to me in various ways. I love the art of past eras for its wisdom. And so: in the painting 'Fight for words' I’ve shown Archangel Michael - in the original piece killing Satan - from the painting of Guido Reni. The 'Fight for words II' presents a detail from the right wing of 'The Last Judgement' by Hans Memling, the wing devoted to the vision of hell. I had the opportunity to see triptych 'The Last Judgement' several times in the National Museum, during my studies in Gdańsk. It invariably impresses me. The monsters from the painting 'Temptation' come from the Isenheim Altarpiece by Matthias Grünewald - from the one of the interior wings entitled 'Temptation of St. Anthony'.
