About The Artwork
This is a small study done in preparation for the much larger painting, “Lorsque, pourtant, et . . .” The larger piece can be seen also on this page. The flying monk itself is based on traditional colored ink scrolls from Tibet, an example of these can be seen at the Rubin Museum in New York. The monks are traditionally seen as protectors as well as messengers. The piece is painted on canvas board, which has been mounted on a similarly sized stretched canvas for stability.
