This painting was inspired by the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Plum Island, MA. Water mirrors the emotional human spirit. In many ways it parallels our violence, our ability to transform and our interconnectedness as humans as it can change shape as a whole. This piece captures the slow boil of water; the way waves will repeatedly crash upon the shore in a methodic rhythm. It is my hope that this piece holds the viewer, and provides a resting moment for the soul. The Hometown Series is an exploration of greater Newburyport during summer, winter, fall and spring. As a Newburyport local I enjoy returning to iconic places like the boardwalk, the Plum Island Turnpike and Sandy Point Reservation. Although I have lived in the Newburyport area most of my life I have never previously taken the time to engage with its landscape. These paintings upturn figurative rocks through space and time. Through brushstrokes, color and light these works explore Newburyport as it was and as it is to me now. This painting is on a custom made wood panel I constructed. It has four braces on the back to prevent warping. The piece comes with heavy duty hanging wire attached. This painting is signed and dated on the back.
