Forum Romanum I (detail 1)
Forum Romanum I (detail 2)
Forum Romanum I is one of the four paintings I created immediately after my overwhelmingly inspirational visit to Rome. Nearly half of the composition is taken up by a three quarter view of the Triumphal Arch of Septimus Severus. The right area is occupied by the façade of the surrounding building, with its upper level being cropped.
Focusing entirely on the representation of the richly decorated ancient monument, with only a corner of blue sky, I painted the original grey-white colour of the Proconnesian marble using yellow, orange, purple and blue strokes.

I studied Fine art at "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" University of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. In 2001 I obtained my master degree in painting with the speciality of Pedagogic of Fine Art. In 2003 I have completed an extra mural course of education for acquiring additional professional training in the speciality of Painting. My mentor was Professor Nicolai Ruschukliev. I thoroughly enjoy painting landscapes, interiors, still-life, figures and portraits. The oil impasto technique, provoke me to build a thick texture, often using a palette knife or finger strokes. Because of the vibrant and bold colours I use, a great part of the forms appear semi-abstract, less defined and expressive, until observed from a distance. With the portraits, I prefer to explore a more precise, realistic approach, as it helps me to reach the character of the model.
