ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Fleshy marks depict female portrait whilst other fluid strokes are escaping the subject, areas of negative space divide and surround the subject, within these areas of emptiness we in tern see more. I want the work to challenge the viewer and divide opinion, as I feel this is the essence of creativity. This series recalls portrait heads and figurative works by artists such as Picasso, Bacon, De Kooning, as much as representing todays splintered existence. Feeding off the past to document the present. Ultimately the paintings are about distortion, fragmentation and the fragility of the human body.
