Helena Snakenborg (1548/1549-1635), Marchioness of Northampton / detail The painting is made using the classic technique of egg tempera, a mixture of pigments, linseed oil and egg. Medieval icon painting is based on this technique. A section of a historical painting is reproduced in a multi-layered impressionistic manner with a multi-layered garment structure. The surface is very lively due to the incorporated diaspore dust. Diaspro is a grinding and gemstone with a high refraction of light. Lines are drawn across the painting to replace the missing face of the depicted figure, they are face detection lines. The work is the seventh image in a 12-part series.
