Luke Morgan was born in Coventry, United Kingdom, in 1969. His passion for the visual arts began early, growing up in a creative household where his father painted and worked with ceramics and his mother practiced photography. Surrounded by images and objects, he developed a deep fascination with how visual language can shape memory and emotion. He studied Art & Design at B-Tec level before completing a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting at Bristol Polytechnic in 1990. In 1996 he earned a Master’s Degree in Art and Design Education from Warwick University, graduating with Distinction for both his studio practice and his thesis on Art and Technology. Over the years, Morgan’s practice has moved from academic life study through narrative painting to a more expressionistic and experimental approach. While still rooted in figuration, his work embraces ambiguity, often blurring the boundary between representation and memory. Through composition, colour, and layered texture, he creates images that evoke nostalgia, empathy, and a sense of the uncanny. “I want to create a greater sense of empathy and nostalgia,” he explains, “by exploring the ambiguity of form and its relation to memory.”
