I have painted this painting because the Geishas of Japanese culture have always caught my attention. Geishas are women who have been trained in the art of conversation, music, song, dance, and hospitality in Japan. They are known for their elegance, grace, and refinement, and are often hired to perform at social and ceremonial events. Geisha began to emerge in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868) as entertainers in the pleasure districts. As they became more popular, they began to be hired to perform at social and ceremonial events, becoming an integral part of Japan's social and cultural life. Geisha are trained for many years and must go through a rigorous apprenticeship process before they can work as professional geisha. They must learn a wide variety of skills, including fan handling, singing, dancing, and conversation. They must also have a thorough knowledge of Japanese history, literature, and culture. Although geisha have become less common in modern Japanese society, they can still be found in some areas of Japan, especially Kyoto, where the geisha tradition is upheld. Although sometimes perceived as symbols of female oppression or a form of exotic tourism, geisha are considered by many to be talented and respected artists in Japanese culture.
