ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Encaustic - an old technique of hot wax painting - makes the texture of this painting very rich, but nonetheless transparent, with each stroke visible in many overlapping layers. Some parts are smooth, other quite rough; some strokes thin and fine, others - rather bold. The rich plastic surfaces of the diptych are imbued with warm, deep light , further fortified with application of golden leaf to underline the aerial character of the painting.
