"Go big or go home" by Carolyn Van Hosen was inspired by the majestic presence of these powerful beasts. Each steer is totally unique in its coloring, their hide's patterning and the incredible horns from which their name derives. "I created large, custom Longhorn Steer paintings for a resort in Temecula, CA; the intense research from which I created the imagery caused me to fall hard for these amazing creatures. The resort project's custom canvases were only my second & third oils - "Go big or go home" is my 4th oil painting I've created - thus my captivation with steers was set. I painted "Go big..." in tribute, with the desire to portray them as the unique individuals they are. "Go big or go home" is an original oil, 84 x 60", box-style canvas (1 3/4" deep).

I lived and worked as a professional artist in Southern California four decades and now Dallas, Texas. Both states offer amazing inspiration grounded in the diverse landscapes and the colorful residents sharing their warmth and charm. My creative endeavors have primarily focused on creating original works for collectors and design projects around the world. My work is displayed in private collections and residences, public settings including large hotels, restaurants and bistros from California to Texas, and Bahrain to Beijing. As a self taught artist, having inherited my creativity from my professional art director father, my work is in flux as I continually explore new media and technques. I am not tethered to one set style nor medium; I spontaneously took up oils in 2014 for a rush client project (due & completed in 36 hours) and was immediately hooked! The magic of oils is their vibrant pigments, vital versatility, and the quixotic rush of capturing one's vision on canvas thus it happens to be my favorite method of translating my concepts to share with others. My colorful journey continues and eventually, may my epitaph read: She came, She saw, She created.
