About The Artwork

I have always enjoyed painting the moon. This painting has some great earth tones and reflections along with some pallet knife work. I noticed at looking at the painting one day that there was this broken image of a gorilla's eye's, nose and mouth. Just to the right of the moonrise on the top of the mountain. Thus the name for the title. There is some pallet knife work done also. The painting includes a beautiful gold ornate frame and mounting hardware.

Joseph O’Brien's Bio Growing up in Chicago, Illinois near Lake Michigan Joseph’s passion for painting marine oil paintings grew over the next 50 years. Drawn to light and illumination can be seen in his seascapes and landscapes. His attention to detail, realism and perspective shows thru in his works. From the age of twelve Joseph has never stopped his passion for painting. Self taught and innovated he is always looking for new techniques using a special made pallet knife, sponge or a new brush he created for certain details. Being a Mechanical Designer in Engineering for over 40 years has helped with his creativity. Also his love for architecture Joseph designed over 20 residential expansions in the Chicago area. He won multiple awards from Illinois Institute of Technology for Architectural design in High School and has multiple art awards in competitions. Completing over 150 paintings and hopefully another 250 to grow his life works. Abstracts of landscapes and seascapes can now be seen in his portfolio. His art has been influenced by masters Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt. Joseph is so gratified that people can enjoy the solitude and serenity of his paintings. Now living in Tucson Arizona for the past 25 years with his beautiful wife Katie, Joseph is enjoying the vibrant colors of a deserts sunrise and sunsets to inspire his ongoing works.
