Justyna Kabala Born in 1981. Polish artist specialized in painting. Lives and works in Warsaw. In the years 2001-2006 she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She graduated from the Faculty of Painting under the direction of prof. Krzysztof Wachowiak. She is a laureate of scholarship of the Minister of Culture for the year 2004/2005, and a laureate of a few awards at "Warsaw Graphics" contest. In 2006 she got the "˜Golden Laurel Branch' of the Artistic Agency 3A for her diploma work. In 2006 she was nominated to take part in the International Print Triennial in Cracow within the framework "˜The Best Diploma - a student and his supervisor'. In 2010 she was a top twenty of the ranking "˜Young Art Compass' in Poland. Recently she started to be interested in non-figurative painting. She started to paint interiors of galleries and create abstract installations, like "˜Room number 412/Flirting Fiancee"˜. Realized painting projects: "˜Inter-action', "˜Everybody wants to be Venus', "˜Gender plays Gender', "˜Searching' and others. In the figurative art she cultivate themes of body and identity and human roles in society. She is interested in redefinition of cultural clichés that manage what's masculine and feminine and deconstruction the schematic character of convictions and confidences concerning the sphere of body and intimacy. Kabala's works from "˜Gender plays Gender' project speak about the threads that have been already present in her creation, especially in the project "Everybody wants to be a Venus". Justyna Kabala refers to the oppressive visual clichés which - by means of mass media, but also the "˜obligatory' paradigm of tradition - impose the way of perceiving and receiving beauty and femininity. Venus is one of the legible imaginative figures among them. The artist seems to suggest that the process of identification with the symbolical ideal of beauty is not a result of intention and acceptance, but rather an effect of the power of sight and assessment, to which the contemporary man is succumbed.
